Mold Remediation And Removal Service

Depending on where you live mold can be more of a problem for a homeowner. If you live in a damp wet climate, there is a good chance that you have some type of mold growing in your home. Although most of the mold is not bad, it can play a part in making your allergies worse.

It is physically impossible to get rid of all the mold in your house a lot of it does cling to dust particles that flow through the air. But if you have a more serious problem, such as an area of moisture in your home where mold is allowed to prosper and get much worse, then you have a problem on your hands.

Mainly mold growth occurs after a flooding situation, and the water gets into the spaces inside your walls and foundation. At that point, mold can set in and do a lot of damage. This mold can go undetected quite easily because it may stay hidden in cracks in the foundation and the walls.

In order to remove the mold, you need to hire a mold remediation services that will perform a thorough home inspection to see what is present and how bad the situation. What causes the mold is the moisture, so the first step in repairing a mold situation is to get rid of the dampness.

It is important that you hire a mold detection and remediation team to properly inspect and remove the mold as quickly as possible. This is especially important if you suffered recent water damage since you want to dry out the property before the water seeps in the foundation. A professional mold remediation team will go to work quickly with an inspection then the next crew will come in for the cleanup. It mainly involves thoroughly drying the area out, so the mold doesn’t have a chance to grow.

Also important that any contractor you hire to clean up the mold is highly experienced, licensed and insured. They understand the guidelines and know the responsibilities when cleaning up the mold. Most of the mold you encounter won’t be bad, but if it starts seriously affecting your allergies, then you really need to do something about it.

Mold can also cause problems around leaky window sills where you can see the wood begin to rot. This is obviously not a good situation and must be fixed immediately. An inspection should also be performed in other parts of the house to determine if there is mold damage to more of the wood frame. If so, you may need a contractor to come in and replace that part of the house.

Water and any type of moisture that is allowed to linger in your home cause the mold problems. Make sure you regularly clean your environment, with an emphasis on drying everything completely. If you are very concerned because of allergies, you can always contact an expert for an inspection.

What Does A Water Damage Repair Company Do For Orange County Homes?

Image 1When you’re in a water-damage fix, and you need to act fast, there is no alternative to finding a highly-reputable
water damage restoration company. However, you should also understand the services that these companies offer as both protection for yourself and your home.

Water Extraction

Probably the most common water damage restoration service is water extraction, primarily from flooded basements. This can be caused by a sub pump failure, storm damage, or other outside causes.

Unfortunately, these situations are not always avoidable; restoration companies will essentially extract all water from your flooded area by using a hose connected to a vacuum. After extracting all water, they will then help to dry your home.

Advance Dehumidification

If your Orange County, CA home has been the victim of serious flooding, you may experience extreme situations of humidity following extraction. The cause can be deep underneath your carpets, and can require more than just extraction and simple drying techniques.

A water damage contractor will help you find the source of the problem, and advise on a solution to best dehumidify the affected area.

It is important to take care of humidity problems immediately, or the result could be mold problems in the future.

Mold & Remediation

When water damage goes untreated for long periods of time, mold can appear, causing dangerous hazards to health.

Water damage companies often specialize in remediation, a process to get rid of mold. Mold left untouched for long periods of time will continue to get worse, damage building materials, and can be deadly. Black mold, especially, should be given attention immediately.

Electronics Restoration

Electronics damaged by water are unfortunately not always an easy fix. Fortunately, many water damage restoration companies offer side-services that focus on restoring electronics to their original state.

Structural Inspection & Repair

If you detect that water has damaged the structure of your home, the best thing you can do is call a water restoration company immediately. If the integrity of your home’s structure is under attack by water, your safety is also threatened daily.

Structural repairs can be expensive, but you should deal with a water damage restoration company to fix repairs, because of their expertise in dealing with water issues.

Other Services

As water damage problems can pop up out of nowhere, you will also find that many of these services offer 24-hour emergency service. The property values of OC area homes are now going up like crazy, so if you live in cities like Newport Beach, Irvine or Anaheim, you would be best to have any water related issues looked at immediately once they happen

Along with water damage restoration, a lot of restoration companies also can assist with Fire, Environmental (mold), and content restoration.

How to Deal with Water Damage

banner-20131015162948

Water damage can easily become a major inconvenience and cause a large amount of damage to your home. If you have experienced water damage, it is important to act quickly and deal with the situation as soon as possible to prevent further damages and the growth of mold. To help you out, we have compiled this list of tips for dealing with water damage.

Shut Off Your Water and Power

The first thing you need to do in order to deal with water damage is shut off your water, if the cause of the problem is from a burst pipe or other plumbing issue. You need to stop the flow of water in order to stop the water damage from spreading any further. Next, you will need to shut off power, if you can safely reach your power box. Turn off electricity and gas to stop the risk of shock or electrocution.

Determine the Extent of the Damages

simple-Home-Improvement-TipsWith your water and power safely shut off, you can begin inspecting the damage. Determine which areas of your house were affected by the water damage. It is also a good idea to take photos of all damages. This could be useful when it comes time to file an insurance claim.

Remove Valuable Items

Next, remove any valuable items that are in rooms (or underneath rooms) that have been affected by the water damage. Do not worry about drying and cleaning the items yet. Just get them out of the wet environment and move on to the next step.

Begin Removing Standing Water

The biggest threat to the safety of your home when dealing with water damage is the standing water. It can lead to mold growth and cause additional damage to the structure of your property, your walls, and your flooring. Wear protective gear, such as rubber boots and gloves, to prevent slipping. Keep your children and any pets away from the area until it is thoroughly cleaned. If you are dealing with a flood caused by a plumbing issue, then gloves are necessary if there is human waste in the water. Use a pump or a shop wet/dry vacuum to begin removing the standing water. If you do not own either of those pieces of equipment then you may need the help of a professional.

Clean Up the Debris

238967After the standing water has been dealt with, you can start cleaning up the debris. Take caution, as the water and flooding may have left sharp debris along the floor. Do not handle muddy items without proper protection. Also keep an eye out for mice or even snakes, if your home was significantly flooded.

Let Appliances Dry Completely

Allow all your appliances to completely dry before plugging them back in. The same goes with all your outlets, do not plug anything into them until you are sure that the outlets and your electrical wiring are thoroughly dry. For most appliances, it is best to allow them to air dry, instead of using an air blower. While you shouldn’t use an air blower on your appliances, you can use one to begin drying out your carpeting, furniture, or flooring.

Search for Mold

Mold spreads very easily and cause a number of health issues. After completing the rest of the cleanup process after dealing with water damage you should completely search your property for any signs of mold. You may need to consider adding a dehumidifier to cut down on the chances of mold spreading. If you need help removing or detecting mold, contact a mold removal company.

These are the basic steps needed to deal with water damage on your own. Depending on the amount of damage you face from flooding or plumbing damages, you may be able to take care of the repair and restoration process yourself. Always remember that safety comes first when handling water damage and that if you are ever in doubt about what to do next, contact a professional.

In this video, I start re-roofing the house. I start with removing the old asphalt shingles. I decided to re-sheath the roof, I did so by layering on a layer of 7/16 OSB over the existing plywood sheathing. I dried the house in with 30 pound felt paper. This set’s me up to plumb my vents through the roof, apply drip edge and shingle the house up…coming soon. This video ends with applying plywood to the underside of the overhangs and spray on a coat of Olympic solid stain. It’s quite a project but one that I am enjoying, both the work and sharing the process with you all.
